Ariana Botelho - Medicaid Specialist

Ariana is Connelly Law's Medicaid Specialist and originally came to our firm as an intern through the Law and Public Safety Academy at Tolman High School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.  That program is associated with Roger Williams University in an articulation agreement with them.  After completing her internship, Ariana stayed with the firm as a legal assistant.  She interned directly under Attorney Connelly to learn the legal, financial, and medical criteria for Medicaid eligibility and the steps needed for Medicaid planning.

"A Medicaid specialist has many different responsibilities," said Ariana.  "When we first discuss planning with a family, they are usually surprised at the laws surrounding eligibility and the amount of documentation that must be gathered to begin the application process.  There are various look-back periods and state mandates for Medicaid and

every client's needs are different."

"Medicaid is a Federal program, but it's administered on a state level, with the regulations and rules that govern it varying greatly by state," Ariana continued.  "At our firm, Attorney Connelly practices in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut so we are familiar with the nuances of each state's Medicaid laws and programs."

Outside of the office, Ariana has a Bachelor's degree in psychology and is currently in the Master's Program, as her interest is in psychological research and teaching. Although elder law and psychology appear separate, they are united by their goals of helping others deal with many life circumstances.  "Communicating with a client during a personal crisis is a major part of my job," stated Ariana. "Many who come to us for Medicaid planning have just experienced a family emergency, such as a loved one being diagnosed with dementia or suffering a major medical issue.  Communicating effectively with the empathy and compassion they need during such a difficult time is extremely important."
