Representative Payee - Connecticut

When the Social Security or Veterans Administration determines that an individual cannot manage their own funds, they prefer their beneficiaries to have a representative payee who may be a family member or close friend.  In other cases, this may not be possible or in the best interest of all concerned.  The next option in these situations is to work with a professional representative payee or a professional fiduciary.  Connelly Law Offices, Ltd. provides those services with a dignified approach based upon mutual respect.  Connelly Law Offices, Ltd. collaborates with the client and the case manager/counselor to ensure that the budget developed between the client and the case manager/counselor is followed and that all bills and expenses are paid promptly.

An Automated Process

The attractive aspect of our rep payee program is that our system is automated.  Each month, there will be contact between our fiduciary department and the client’s case manager/counselor to obtain a copy of the budget developed by the client and the case manager/counselor with the bills and expenses to be reimbursed/paid.  Our fiduciary department will take these numbers and schedule the payments using our TruLink payment system.

Using this automated system removes the power struggles between the client, case manager/counselor, and the representative payee.  This also puts a structure that encourages the client to live within the agreed-upon budget, thereby complying with the Social Security and/or Veterans Administration determination that a representative payee was required in the recipient's best interest.

What We Provide

Connelly Law Offices, Ltd.’s fiduciary department provides representative payee and professional fiduciary services only and is not trained nor expected to assess or provide any mental health counseling, behavioral interventions or provide answers regarding legal concerns, which is why we require that the case manager/counselor be our point of contact.  In short, we do not manage behaviors; we manage money.

What We Provide

If you are seeking a representative payee as a requirement of the Social Security or the Veterans Administration and are not currently in a treatment program or residing in a shelter, Connelly Law Offices, Ltd. can provide you with a list of professional resources that will allow you to begin your journey into recovery and well-being by finding an appropriate case manager or counselor who can begin facilitating this process with you.

"Our Representative Payee services use the beneficiary’s Social Security and/or SSI payments to pay for his/her current needs and to maintain accurate records for the beneficiary and others as required. This ensures that necessities like rent, utilities, and other bills are paid and current for someone who has difficulty in managing funds."
